Paul Addis

Paul Addis has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector, most recently serving as CEO and Co-Chairman of Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy.  He also served as Executive Vice President of American Electric Power, one of America's largest electric utilities, where he was responsible for power plant operations, acquisitions and divestitures, and global energy trading.  Early in his career he was an agricultural commodities trader; his first job was as an environmental analyst for the AFL-CIO.

 

Donald Arthur, M.D.

Dr. Donald Arthur has had a 33 year career in the U. S. Navy, culminating in his role as its 35th Surgeon General.  He has served as the CEO of the National Naval Medical Center and Naval Hospital Camp LeJeune.  Dr. Arthur also served as the Chief of the Navy Medical Corps.  He is a Fellow and Past President of the Aerospace Medical Association and was President of the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S.  He is vitally interested in advancing community-based prevention as a primary mode of health care rather than more costly and usually less effective restorative care.

 

Charles F. Bolden, Jr.

Charles Bolden began serving in the US Marine Corps in 1968, retiring in 2003 as Commanding General of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.  He also spent 14 years as an astronaut at NASA commanding two of his four scientific and medical missions (including deploying the Hubble telescope).  He currently devotes his time and efforts to promoting support for the victims of Sickle Cell Anemia in the Greater Houston, TX area.

 

Kenneth Colburn

Ken Colburn has had a 30-year career in finance and management.  He was the founding Chief Operating Officer at Highfields Capital Management, an investment management firm that includes as its clients several prominent universities and philanthropic foundations. He served as Vice President of Project and International Finance for Raytheon Company and as a Managing Director for CS First Boston.  He is Managing Member of 105600, LLC, a consulting and private investment firm.  Among other board responsibilities, he is a Trustee of Bentley University and the Chairman of the Board of Mechanology, Inc.

 

Charles Denham, M.D.

Dr. Charles Denham is founder and chairman of TMIT a medical non-profit organization and national research test bed comprised of 3100 hospitals.  He has taught at several medical and business schools and his research as resulted in product and process innovations in surgery, oncology, imaging, pharmaceuticals and ophthalmology.  He co-chairs multiple national programs at the National Quality Forum that establish standards for all US hospitals and chairs the Leapfrog Group Safe Practices Pay-For-Performance Program for Fortune 500 organizations.

 

Vivian Lowery Derryck

Vivian Derryck has a three-decade history of Africa-based education and advocacy, working with government and business leaders in the United States and multiple African nations.  She has focused on women's rights, HIV/AIDS, and conflict resolution.  She served as the U.S. Agency for International Development assistant administrator for Africa and Senior Vice President of the Academy for Educational Development.

 

James Kaplan

Jamie Kaplan is a co-founder and Executive Director of The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness, an innovative leader in disabilities awareness education.  He graduated from Brown University and the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the law review.  Jamie practiced law for nearly 25 years as a partner with firms in Washington, D.C. and Maine, and was an Associate Counsel in 1987 with the U.S. Senate Iran-Contra Committee.  Although his practice focused on complex commercial litigation, he participated in several disabilities rights cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, and has written extensively on disabilities law and legal ethics.

 

Susan Leal

As a former head of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Susan Leal established the Water Utility Climate Alliance, a coalition of large water utilities to grapple with the challenges of climate change.  As the former San Francisco's City and County Treasurer, she instituted a pioneering socially responsible investment program.  Leal earned a B.A. in Economics and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.  She is a member of the District of Columbia bar.

 

Ms. Shelly London

Shelly London has served as Vice President and Chief Communications Officer for American Standard Companies, a multinational conglomerate, which was renamed as Trane.  She previously spent 18 years at AT&T in positions of increasing responsibility primarily in marketing and communications, most recently as Senior Vice President of Communications for Concert, a global joint venture of AT&T and British Telecom.  During her career, she developed innovations in change management communication, employee involvement and community service.

 

Hans-Ulrich Maerki

Hans-Ulrich Maerki spent 35 years in positions of increasing responsibility at IBM.  As Chairman and General Manager of IBM Europe/Middle East/Africa, he was responsible for overseeing the company's operations in 124 countries which included the management of over 96,000 employees.  One of his primary goals was raising the company's profile as a proactive and socially-responsible corporation.  He serves on the boards of three large global corporations, a Hospital in Zurich as well as on the Board of Trustees of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and on the Advisory Boards of three European business schools.

 

Pablo Pulido, M.D.

Physician.  A cardiologist by training, Dr. Pablo Pulido is a former Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Venezuela.  He has led several organizations dedicated to improving health care and education.  He founded Centro Medico Docente La Trinidad, a model non-profit health care teaching facility.  Currently is the Chairman of a Children's Ortheopedic Hospital in Caracas as well as of the Universidad Metropolitana Foundation, Board of Trustees and Member of the Board of Governors of this private not for profit Tech also in Caracas.  He is a Member of the Advisory Committee of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard.

 

Samir Toubassy

Samir retired from The Olayan Group early in 2009 after thirty years of service, but continues to serve as an Advisor to the Group and on its Executive Committee.  The last post he occupied was Group Vice President and President of Olayan Development Corp. The Olayan Group itself is amongst the largest privately held investment conglomerates with operating businesses mainly in the Middle East region with well known multinational partners. Samir is a trustee of Thunderbird School of Global Management, also a member of the Dean's Council of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and actively involved with World Economic Forum for the last twelve years.  Samir holds an MBA degree.

 

Robert Whelan

Robert Whelan has had nearly 30 years experience as an officer and senior executive for finance and investment companies, including Hambrecht & Quist Inc, where he was Managing Director and Head of Corporate Finance.  He has been a trustee of several prominent secondary schools.  He is President of Whelan and Company, LLC, which provides financial consulting and strategic advisory services to the technology, health care and alternative energy industries.

 

Hope Woodhouse

Hope Woodhouse, an alumna of Harvard Business School returns to campus after a 25 year career in the financial services industry, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer of Bridgewater Associates.  Formerly she was the COO of Soros Funds Management, Treasurer of Tiger Management and a Managing Director at Salomon Brothers.  She serves as a Trustee for the Tiger Foundation and is on the investment committee of Philips Andover Academy's endowment.
