Monty Simus has spent much of his career deploying catalytic philanthropy, innovative social finance, and equity investment to purpose-driven enterprises serving emerging markets. He is the founder and president of Water Politics, one of the world’s leading global water-related geopolitical risk consultancies, where he advises and writes on strategic issues related to freshwater scarcity and its implications.
Monty previously served as executive director for global growth at WorldFish, an international non-profit reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty worldwide, and as director of The Bayat Foundation, an organization dedicated to the health and education of vulnerable Afghans. Prior to these roles, he served as vice president of business development for a family office focused on scaling sustainable businesses in fragile markets.
A member of the 2015 ALI Cohort and a 2016 ALI Senior Fellow, Monty is returning to Harvard to continue his work on global water policy, conflict, and collective hope for a water-just future through the launch of the Global Water Politics and Justice Initiative, a global interdisciplinary collaborative fostering integrated worldwide governance of freshwater resources.
