Prior to ALI, Deborah McCarthy served as the United States Ambassador to Lithuania. A long-time foreign service officer for the U.S. Department of State, she was previously principle deputy assistant secretary for economic and business affairs, deputy ambassador at the U.S. Embassy in Greece and in Nicaragua, special coordinator for Venezuela, senior advisor for counter-terrorism, and deputy assistant secretary for narcotics. Deborah’s diplomatic experience also includes postings in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Canada, France, and Italy. She was executive director of the diversity in international affairs program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and was a visiting fellow at the Finnish Institute for International Affairs. Deborah began her career as assistant treasurer in the corporate lending department of Chase Manhattan Bank.
