Fighting human trafficking
When Junko Yoda arrived as a 2010 ALI Fellow, she already knew what cause she wanted to address: sexual trafficking of girls. At ALI, she met another member of the 2010 Cohort named Pam McCambridge who also wanted to stop sexual exploitation. Together, they founded CLinked (Community Linked), which aims to work with communities to stop sexual trafficking. CLinked has implemented several initiatives, including creating and broadcasting radio programs to spread awareness of human trafficking, helping victims heal through photography, and using video workshops to facilitate discussions with victims and boost their self-esteem. Beginning in 2015, CLinked introduced Harvard Kennedy School Professor Marshall Ganz’s community organizing training to local leaders to help them develop their own human trafficking prevention, leadership, and women’s programs. CLinked continues these programs and has scaled them to meet the needs of more than 1,900 women, men, and children in Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Singapore, the U.S., and Vietnam.
