Elisabeth Ungar

Elisabeth Ungar brings to ALI expertise in strengthening democracies against corruption through citizen participation, social movements, and public and private sector transparency. She served on the board of Transparency International, an anti-corruption NGO, and was executive director of Transparecia por Colombia, its chapter in her native Colombia. Elisabeth founded the government watchdog organization Congreso Visible and served on the boards of World Movement for Democracy and the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy. An independent panel selected Elisabeth to serve on a special electoral commission created through the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP. She is also a permanent columnist for Colombia’s second largest newspaper, El Espectador, and serves on the board of Universidad de los Andes, where she was a long-time professor.
