Prior to ALI, Edwin Escobar served for eight years as mayor of Villa Nueva, Guatemala’s second largest city with a population of more than 1.2 million, and was a presidential candidate in 2019. An entrepreneur, he founded both Grupo Nabla, a residential, commercial, and industrial construction company, and Maslow Group, an operator of fast-food franchises in Central America.
Edwin served two terms as president of Guatemala’s National Association of Municipalities, was vice president of its national electricity system provider, and a board member for the Guatemalan regional electric market operator. The former dean of engineering at Universidad Rafael Landivar, he founded an NGO which has constructed more than 250 school classrooms in underserved communities.
